Mott MacDonald is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Project Engineer to support the growth of our transportation practice across Louisiana and the Gulf Coast region. This role is ideal for a transportation engineer with a strong background in roadway design, geometric design, corridor modeling, and DOT project delivery who is passionate about developing transportation infrastructure that improves mobility and safety for the communities we serve.

 

As part of our growing transportation team, you will play a key role in the planning, design, and delivery of roadway, highway, interchange, bridge approach, and multimodal transportation projects for clients including the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LADOTD), other state Departments of Transportation (DOTs) across the Gulf Coast region, municipal agencies, and regional transportation authorities.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead roadway and transportation design tasks for Gulf Coast DOTs, municipal, and regional transportation projects.
  • Develop and review horizontal and vertical alignments, roadway geometrics, corridor models, cross sections, and construction plans.
  • Prepare plans, specifications, estimates (PS&E), technical reports, and engineering studies.
  • Utilize OpenRoads Designer, MicroStation, and related Bentley design software for project development and plan production.
  • Perform quality control and technical reviews of transportation design deliverables.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, utilities, permitting agencies, and subconsultants.
  • Apply LADOTD, AASHTO, and applicable local agency design standards throughout project development.
  • Support project managers with scope development, schedules, budgets, and client coordination.
  • Mentor junior engineers and designers and provide technical guidance to project teams.
  • Attend and participate in client meetings, design workshops, and project coordination meetings.

 

We Invite Applications From Candidates With The Following Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in Louisiana or ability to obtain through reciprocity.
  • 12+ years of transportation engineering experience.
  • Strong experience delivering LADOTD projects and familiarity with LADOTD design standards, procedures, and project development requirements.
  • Experience with roadway geometrics, corridor modeling, maintenance of traffic, signing and striping, utility coordination, and transportation plan production.
  • Proficiency in OpenRoads Designer, InRoads V8i, MicroStation, and Bentley roadway design applications.
  • Experience with interstate, highway, interchange, bridge approach, and urban roadway improvement projects.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Adobe InDesign, Microsoft Office Suite, and transportation-related design software.
  • Experience working with LADOTD, local municipalities, or regional transportation agencies is highly desirable.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience serving as Engineer of Record or lead roadway engineer.
  • Familiarity with transportation corridor studies, interchange design, and complete streets projects.
  • ATTSA Traffic Control Supervisor certification.
  • Experience supporting proposal pursuits and transportation business development efforts.
