Job Description
We are looking for a Principal Aviation Engineer to spearhead our airfield team in Noida or Bangalore. As the founding member of this team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping its growth and long-term success.
In this position, you will lead the delivery of airfield civil engineering design and maintenance projects, guiding them through every stage, from feasibility and option studies to detailed design and construction. Your work will support a diverse portfolio of clients across the UK and internationally.
Job Location : Noida/Bangalore
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and grow a local team in the preparation of designs for Airfields at International, Regional, and Domestic Airports and for Military Airfields.
- Prepare airfield pavement designs.
- Analyse geotechnical and soil investigation information and request necessary surveys and tests.
- Undertake geometric and grading design of Runways, Taxiways, Aprons, service roads, etc.
- Undertake storm water drainage and water management system design for airports.
- Undertake setting out design of Aeronautical Ground Lighting (AGL).
- Oversee the production of Civil 3D Design of civil works and infrastructure and 3D models for airfield projects.
- Help to coordinate design across multiple disciplines including pavement engineering, structural engineering, drainage, electrical and Aeronautical Ground Lighting (AGL) etc.
- Prepare specifications for civil and electrical works.
- Prepare feasible, logical and efficient work phasing proposals to carry out the construction works.
- Undertake civil works design and design reviews covering all stages of design.
- Support in the engagement and management of subconsultants.
- Support in the preparation of tender documentation and in the support of clients during procurement processes for Airfield Civil Works.
- Support in the preparation of methodologies, design proposals, resources estimation, etc. for preparation of bids.
- Candidate should be able to travel frequently to UK and Internationally for site visits and to visit MM UK Offices.
- Complete assigned tasks in accordance with quality, timescales, and budgeted hours.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve project objectives to develop design solutions that meet client requirements and regulatory standards.
- Comply with industry standards and safety regulations.
- Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with Mott MacDonald's quality standard procedures.
- Provide leadership with knowledge management and digital delivery initiatives for the team.
- Lead, inspire and motivate people in the team to achieve high levels of performance and excellence.
- Provide supervision and mentoring, identifying opportunities for professional development and progression along with specific line management responsibilities for designated direct reports.
- Foster a culture of right first-time delivery and work with Project Managers/Principals to ensure effective project delivery.
- Recruit and manage Senior and Junior Team members.
- Undertake line management duties.
- Lead visits to Airfields around the world in the monitoring of construction works and in the production of reports on progress.
- Provide leadership and line management support to Senior and Airfield Engineers in their development of Airfield designs for airports in the UK and around the world.
- Interface with clients, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure project requirements and standards are met.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Candidate Specification
- Candidate should have experience in Airfield Engineering Design and the Management of Airfield Design and should have good CAD (2D and 3D) capabilities.
- Candidate should have excellent written and spoken English and the ability to speak additional languages would be desirable.
- Candidate should from ideally be members of the Institution of Civil Engineers or similar internationally recognised professional body and have a Chartered Engineer or equivalent status.
- Experience in bid and client account management would be advantageous.
- Candidate may be required to travel to the UK and to selected locations internationally (subject to mutual agreement).
Qualifications:
- Degree qualified in Civil engineering (BE/B. Tech./ME/M. Tech./ MSc or equivalent).
- M.Tech or Master’s degree in Transportation, or a related field.
- Minimum 12 to 15 years of civil infrastructure design experience at airports.
Essential Skills and Experience:
- Experience in and a commitment to effective management of Health, Safety and Welfare, Safety by Design.
- Knowledge and experience of using AutoCAD, Civil 3D and relevant other airfield engineering design software packages such as AviPlan, SkySafe and FAARFIELD is preferable but not essential.
- Experience of international airfield design standards such as BAA, ICAO and FAA.
- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and new technologies.
- Experience of managing project teams and technical leadership would be advantageous.
- Commercial and financial awareness, and the ability to plan and monitor project programmes, budgets and resources to ensure delivery to time and cost constraints.
- General IT software skills, such as, Microsoft Office, SharePoint, ProjectWise, ACC, Bentley and Autodesk software.
- Ability to communicate confidently and professionally with all levels of staff and clients (written and verbal).
Desirable Competencies / Skills:
- Experience in the preparation of fee proposals and tender submissions would be advantageous.
- Knowledge of the sustainable design of airfield and associated infrastructure would be advantageous.
- Chartered or Incorporated Status (MICE, MCIHT or equivalent) or equivalent demonstrable experience.
