The role will focus on providing robust project controls, cost, and commercial management support to Project Managers and Technical Leads, ensuring projects are delivered in line with agreed scope, budget, programme, and governance requirements.

This role is well suited to a professional with proven experience within a consultancy or client‑side environment, ideally with exposure to complex, multidisciplinary transport projects.

Key responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Support the planning, monitoring, and control of transport projects across cost, schedule, risk, and change management.
  • Establish and maintain project control systems, processes, and reporting in line with Mott MacDonald governance and client requirements.
  • Develop, maintain, and track project budgets, forecasts, and cost baselines.
  • Monitor project performance against approved baselines and highlight risks, variances, and opportunities.
  • Support the preparation of monthly project control and commercial reports for internal and client use.
  • Assist with change control processes, including evaluation, tracking, and reporting of variations.
  • Coordinate closely with Project Managers, finance teams, and technical leads to ensure accurate financial and programme data.
  • Prepare and support client invoicing, including cost back‑up and reconciliation with finance systems.
  • Review sub‑consultant costs and advise on approvals and payments, where applicable.
  • Support audits and reviews to ensure compliance with contractual, commercial, and organisational requirements.

Candidate specification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Project Management, Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related discipline.
  • Approximately relevant experience in a Project Controls or Project Controller role, preferably within the transport sector.
  • Proven experience supporting project cost control, forecasting, reporting, and change management.
  • Strong understanding of project delivery within a consultancy or professional services environment.
  • Experience working on multidisciplinary infrastructure or transport projects.
  • Good commercial and contractual awareness.
  • Strong analytical, numerical, and reporting skills.
  • Proficient in project control and reporting tools (e.g. Excel‑based cost models, scheduling and reporting systems).
  • Ability to work collaboratively with project teams and engage confidently with clients and stakeholders.
  • Professional membership or project control / project management certification is advantageous.
