The Construction Inspector is a senior-level role responsible for overseeing major transit construction projects. This position involves supervising inspection teams, ensuring contractor compliance, and managing complex infrastructure efforts such as light rail, facilities, bridges, and utility relocations.
The position oversees a major program area of construction operations; administers and inspects large-scale transit projects independently; ensures adherence to plans, specifications, and safety standards; and works closely with contractors, project teams, and stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field is often preferred.
- Extensive experience in construction inspection with a minimum of 20 years of construction inspection experience in progressively responsible inspection roles.
- Prior work on transit infrastructure, such as light rail, bridges, or utility relocation, is highly valued. Experience managing large-scale or complex projects independently.
- Strong knowledge of construction codes, Caltrans standards, and safety regulations.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting plans/specs, documenting progress, and ensuring contractor compliance.
- Experience in managing construction of transit facilities, light rail systems (OCS, traction power, signals, etc.) construction, transit stations, yards, trackwork, BRT, bus passenger facilities, etc.
- Familiarity with technical writing, Microsoft Office, and project management tools like MS Project.
Other Requirements
- A valid California driver’s license.
- Willingness to travel and work flexible hours depending on project needs.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, especially for coordinating with contractors and supervising inspection teams.
- Expected to be at project site. Remote work is not acceptable.

The expected salary for this position is $147,000- $179,000
Individual pay is determined based on several factors such as work location, education, experience, and unique skills.
