Mott MacDonald (MM) is seeking a Transportation /Express Lanes System Engineer to support our client in San Jose, CA. The Engineer will be an integral part of a technical team made up of primarily Professional Engineers and will be involved with a variety of express lanes projects; primarily focusing on Electronic Toll Systems and Express Lanes Operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate in the design and development of toll concept plans, including requirements analysis, technology review and selection, development and communication of operational concepts, specifications development, testing, and commissioning.

  • Participate in the request for proposal development and selection process for solicitations related to developing, delivering and operating Express Lanes.

  • Provide guidance in the development of project materials such as, scopes of works, work plans, and project deliverables, including project planning, scheduling & tracking projects, civil design collaboration and Electronic Toll System (ETS) Development.

  • Participate in Express Lanes (EL) related reviews and design workshops with system integrator (SI) during the software development process. Coordinate development of EL dynamic tolling design, including Toll Data Center (TDC), dashboard, and similar EL related elements.

  • Assist during the Factory Acceptance test, System Site Acceptance Test and System Performance Evaluation & Approval process.

  • Provide assistance on management of the EL Toll Operations Center includes:

    • Monitor EL operations during the hours of operations, and coordinate with external agencies as needed.

    • Provide regular training to new Express Lanes technicians and other technical staff.

    • Monitor ETS equipment, and coordinate with the SI’s field technicians in case of a system failure.

    • Ensure all project deliverables are completed on-time and of the best quality.

    • Coordinate with SI related to the maintenance activities, including preparing purchase requisitions, independent cost estimates and maintenance contracts. This includes assigning and tracking work activities and schedules, and delegating task

We invite applications from candidates with the following experience:

  • BS in Civil Engineering, or other transportation engineering discipline.

  • Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering or other professionally-recognized equivalent discipline is desired, but not required.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration and/or Traffic Engineer (TE) in California is desirable, but not required.

  • 5+ years of experience in transportation design, express lanes experience preferred

  • Knowledge of basic aims, concepts, and principles of civil engineering and transportation engineering and Express Lanes.

  • Knowledge of common computer applications used in transportation engineering

  • Ability to organize work, prepare presentations, prioritize projects, meet deadlines, and coordinate and complete multiple tasks with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to collect, tabulate and analyze data.

  • Ability to understand and implement work programs and multiple tasks and to elicit support and cooperation from other departments and staff from other jurisdictions.

  • Ability to organize work, prepare presentations, prioritize projects, meet deadlines, and coordinate and complete multiple tasks with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to work with diverse individuals, one-on-one or in a team context.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively orally and in written form.

  • Ability to interpret technical specifications, plans, blueprints, and engineering mapping.

  • Ability to mentor and communicate effectively to both technical and non-technical constituents.

Salary Range: $87,000- $106,000
