DutiesDevelop conceptual, preliminary, and detailed designs for civil engineering projects. Attend site inspections, investigations, and monitoring. Actively participate in project, client, and team meetings. Review, prepare, and modify designs. Analyze reports, specifications, and studies. Perform structural and geotechnical calculations. Provide drawing markups and sketches to include in project drawings. Provide structural designs in accordance with local and national codes. Direct engineering activities, ensuring compliance with environmental, safety, or other governmental regulations. Manage and direct the construction, operations, or maintenance activities at project site. Inspect project sites to monitor progress and ensure conformance to design specifications. Compute load and grade requirements, water

flow rates, or material stress factors to determine design specifications. Plan and design transportation or hydraulic systems or structures, using computer-assisted design or drawing tools. Provide technical advice to industrial or managerial personnel regarding design, construction, program modifications, or structural repairs. Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, aerial photography, or other topographical or geologic data. Test soils or materials to determine the adequacy and strength of foundations made with concrete,

asphalt, or steel. Identify environmental risks and develop risk management strategies for civil engineering projects. 10% domestic travel required for site inspections and client calls. Position reports into San Ramon office; however, telecommuting from a home office may be allowed.


Requirements:  Requires a Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering, or a directly related field plus four (4) years of experience as an Engineer or a related occupation involving experience in tunnel or geotechnical engineering. Experience may be gained concurrently and must include:

 

Two (2) years in each of the following:

  • Performing geotechnical calculations for underground structures, including assessments related to settlement, static earth pressures, seismic earth pressures, groundwater seepage, and ground-structure interaction
  • Preparing reports for development and construction of underground structures, including preliminary design reports, final design reports, calculation packages, and construction observation reports.

 

One (1) year in each of the following:

  • Drawing development for underground structures, including tunnel plan and profiles, or integration of project base maps
  • Utilizing AutoCAD, CorelDraw, or similar software
  • Developing specifications for underground structures including, tunnel excavation, shaft construction, or geotechnical instrumentation.

 

Alternatively, will accept a Master’s degree and two (2) years of above-described experience.

Qualified applicants must have a Professional Engineer (PE) license issued by the State of California.

 

Salary: $145,500 - $150,000 /year.
