We are seeking a skilled and motivated railway engineer with strong, demonstrable experience in rail and transit projects. This role is responsible for providing technical oversight, delivering high‑quality design solutions, and supporting multidisciplinary teams throughout all project stages. The ideal candidate will have deep knowledge of track design and ideally a working knowledge of rail systems, with proven experience coordinating track-systems-civil interfaces, and a proven record of contributing effectively to complex, multi‑disciplinary design environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical oversight and quality review of track and rail system engineering deliverables across all project phases, and apply a strong understanding of technical standards, guidelines, and project-specific criteria.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure design integration, resolve design conflicts, and ensure alignment between disciplines.
- Engage with clients, stakeholders, and contractors to clarify requirements, address technical issues, and maintain alignment throughout the project lifecycle.
- Deliver technical support in client-facing and project environments and an ability to work collaboratively within project teams.
- Support design development and production of high-quality technical documentation including reports and memos and perform and support QA/QC processes for trackwork and system deliverables.
- Engage with and contribute to professional industry organizations and actively participate in and support Mott MacDonald’s Rail Practice initiatives.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- 5+years demonstrable experience in rail and transit projects, and a working knowledge of industry design standards and best practices.
- Demonstratable experience in trackwork design, and ideally rail systems engineering, with experience in coordinating rail and systems design and engineering interfaces.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related transportation field from an accredited university.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license or actively working toward licensure.

Individual pay is determined based on several factors such as work location, education, experience, and unique skills.
The expected salary for this position is $111,000 - $136,000.
