The Energy unit delivers services to clients globally across several sectors including hydropower, nuclear, waste, renewable generation and transmission & distribution networks. Together we provide integrated engineering and project management services across the project lifecycle – from concept and design to construction and operations, to decommissioning or repowering and life extension. Together with our clients, we’re helping to deliver the energy transition globally.
About the role
Our Power, Process & Nuclear division is recruiting for a Technical Principal to provide insight and focus to capability delivery for a key defence client within in a highly regulated environment. You'll grow the Systems Engineering capability, build and lead the implementation of the in house developed MBSE approach. You will apply your knowledge and experience of delivery in a highly regulated environment. You will use your management, develop skills and awareness of the functional teams as we aim to build and upskill these functions, informing our recruitment, training needs and business development opportunities.You'll report to the Capability Director on a key account client project, putting in place appropriate technical guidance, training and knowledge sharing to deliver technical excellence, to the betterment of all the functions and partners within the project.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop strong and robust client and partner relationships.
- Mentor and upskill delivery teams on the design and safety requirements of the client operators and maintainers to discharge their operational and regulatory needs of nuclear and fissile facilities.
- Challenge designs from the perspective of the customer and the need to maintain assured delivery and agility to deliver change in a highly regulated environment.
- Deliver commercially robust projects and quality outcomes for Clients to budget on schedule.
- Work effectively with the Resource Manager and the Sector/Practice Leaders to bring the right resources to deliver the project to the Client’s satisfaction and meeting Mott MacDonald’s profit or contribution targets.
- Work with partners to align delivery to client focussed capability outcomes
- Lead appropriate account meetings with client and senior level management involvement
- Address client’s issues and fulfilling their aspirations on capability delivery, resilience and sustainability .
Candidate specifications:
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Systems Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or a related field.
- Professional certification in Systems Engineering (e.g., INCOSE CSEP) is preferred.
Experience:
- Extensive experience in systems engineering within highly regulated environments, preferably in the nuclear or defense sectors.
- Proven track record of delivering complex projects on time and within budget.
- Experience in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) implementation and leadership.
Skills:
- Strong leadership and management skills to grow and develop the Systems Engineering capability.
- Excellent client relationship management and partnership development skills.
- Ability to mentor and upskill teams on design and safety requirements.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to challenge designs and ensure robust project delivery.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills for leading meetings and addressing client issues.
