Mott Macdonald is looking to recruit an Airfield Lead for our Aviation market sector team in Toronto, ON. The Airfield Lead provides technical leadership for the planning, design, and delivery of airfield infrastructure. This role oversees all aspects of civil/structural engineering activities across the full project lifecycle, while supporting safe, compliant, and efficient airfield operations.

 

Responsibilities

  • Lead technical development and capture efforts for major airfield projects, including proposal support, scope definition, and client engagement.
  • Oversee the development for airfield infrastructure, ensuring feasibility, constructability, and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Manage and review detailed civil design of runways, taxiways, aprons, drainage, grading, aeronautical ground lighting (AGL), markings, and airfield safety systems.
  • Provide expert input into project execution strategies, phasing plans, and construction methodologies.
  • Conduct airfield inspections, evaluate pavement conditions, and develop long-term maintenance and rehabilitation plans. term maintenance and rehabilitation plans.
  • Ensure adherence to the Canadian Aviation Regulations (CAR’s), FAA, ICAO, DoD, and other applicable design and safety standards as appropriate across all project stages.
  • Lead multidisciplinary coordination with engineering, operations, planning, environmental, and construction teams.
  • Support development of cost estimates, schedules, risk assessments, and bid packages for major pursuits.
  • Support the technical development of junior and senior engineers in airfield engineering design.
  • Work collaboratively and liaise with Mott MacDonald Airfield Engineering colleagues around the world.
  • Oversee designer, contractor and consultant performance, ensuring quality, safety, and timely delivery of project milestones.
  • Prepare and present technical reports, design documents, project updates, and decision briefs to internal and external stakeholders.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Masters degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
  • Professional Engineer license, or ability to obtain within a defined timeframe.
  • 15+ years of experience in civil engineering with a strong background in airfield infrastructure design and/or scale transportation infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting or leading detailed design and delivery of major airfield capital projects.
  • Strong technical knowledge of airfield pavement design, grading, drainage, utilities, markings, aerodrome ground lighting (AGL) and geometric design (vertical and horizontal).
  • Familiarity with CAR’s/FAA/ICAO standards and recommended practices, military design criteria, and applicable engineering codes.
  • Familiar with engineering tools such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, pavement design software (e.g. FAARFIELD, PCASE), Aviplan and project planning tools.
  • Proven ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. paced environment.

Multiple factors such as qualifications, overall experience and position responsibilities will be used to determine the successful candidate's actual salary within the expected range.

 

 

The expected salary range for this position is from $150,000 - $186,000.
