Mott MacDonald’s business is growing! We are seeking an experienced, skilled Proposal Manager to lead the development of complex proposals and presentations to win competitive projects in North America. As a proposal professional you will work closely with senior technical staff, business development professionals, bid managers, and team members in Canada and the wider regional team. Together, you will lead compelling and winning proposals for both large and strategic projects across North America with a focus on Canada.

 

This role requires exceptional leadership skills to drive the process and coordinate and develop compliant and compelling responses to RFQs/RFPs, client interviews, and presentations. As a Proposal Manager you will provide guidance, training, and assistance to the team in effective proposal writing, coordination, and preparation of presentations. The successful candidate will drive the process, effectively convey the messaging identified through prepositioning, including win themes, differentiators, and value propositions, and comprehensively customize all aspects of the proposal.

 

The successful candidate will:

  • Lead proposal strategy and development of creative, compelling, and targeted proposals across all practices.
  • Highlight strengths and differentiators throughout all sections of the proposal and presentations.
  • Facilitate coordination with technical staff in developing strategic proposal responses to meet proposal requirements.
  • Develop Requests for Information based on client RFPs/RFQs and collaborate with subconsultant teaming partners for proposal needs.
  • Customize all sections of proposals, including resumes and project descriptions.
  • Review proposal drafts and final versions for responsiveness, compliance, accuracy, quality, consistent writing style, and effective layout and design.
  • Lead, coordinate and/or serve as a reviewer for formal reviews on selected pursuits.
  • Support the development and implementation of pursuits and strategic pursuit processes.
  • Lead the development of proposals and presentations, including key messages, themes, and differentiators.
  • Conduct storyboarding sessions to drive content plans, develop graphics, and determine layout in line with brand standards.
  • Support efforts to monitor submissions against proposal best practices and industry standards, while considering process improvement opportunities
  • Lead end-to end process and proposal development for small to large scale proposals, including document layout and production
  • Partner with the Capture Team to develop Capture Plans and strategies for top pursuits, including conducting industry research and competitive analysis.
  • Contribute to lessons learned through internal pursuit team, marketing support team, and external client debriefs
  • Assist team in development and preparation of interview materials, including slide deck, leave-behinds, question and answer preparation, team rehearsals, and technology
  • Build and maintain relationships with technical staff, subject matter experts, and prospective teaming partners to promote effective communication and partnerships.
  • Assist with presentations, conduct technical staff interviews, archive proposals, and update company/business information.
  • Maintain proposal content library using enterprise system while adhering to information lifecycle governance
  • Lead by example and mentor team members, providing guidance, feedback, and support to strengthen team capabilities.

 

Candidate Specification

  • 10 plus years’ experience developing strategic submissions, preferably within the AEC industry.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, English, Business, or a related field.
  • Excellent oral, written, and visual communication skills, including editing and proofreading abilities.
  • Strong document layout skills required.
  • Strong ability to manage and motivate others, stimulating creativity.
  • Effective communication with technical staff and management, fostering collaborative relationships.
  • Excellent time and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • A self-starter who will collaborate with the team, adapt to a rapidly changing and competitive environment, and prioritize and multi-task in high pressure environments.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, analytical and general business skills, and the ability to process information quickly and accurately.
  • Ability to thrive under the pressure of multiple deadlines while managing projects with diverse team members.
  • Ability to independently manage a varying workload, including schedule and resource management.
  • A keen attention to detail that allows you to work efficiently in a busy and deadline driven work environment while maintaining accuracy and quality.
  • Goal-oriented mindset with a desire to increase proposal win rate.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe InDesign and MS Word layouts, Illustrator, and Photoshop. Experience in PowerPoint, SharePoint and CRM software.
