Mott MacDonald is looking for an individual to develop, support and lead the execution of Rail Systems design projects executed by Mott MacDonald in North America with responsibility for those projects occurring in Canada. This individual will develop, initiate, plan, execute, and close-out large and complex projects involving multiple systems disciplines and interfaces to infrastructure design, and construction teams. This role will also involve marketing and development of business opportunities for the Rail Systems team in collaboration with business development and regional management teams.
This role reports to the Rail Systems Practice Lead within Mott MacDonald Canada.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead project pursuits including development of proposals and organizational chart/team structure for project delivery
- Play key role in project initiation and planning, including hours estimation, schedule development and project execution plan
- Lead the Rail Systems elements of project delivery within Mott MacDonald Canada, including management and oversight of detailed design and budget management
- Develop, coordinate, and efficiently manage resources to complete systems engineering scope involving multiple disciplines and across multiple offices
- Coordinate and manage efforts of sub-consultants, sub-contractors, and suppliers
- Lead, coordinate and manage the QA process in alignment with the Mott MacDonald QMS and project-specific requirements
- Manage project close-out activities and facilitate client satisfaction surveys
- Provide strategic direction and support for systems engineering and systems assurance activities across Canada and the US as needed
- Support the development and delivery of key Systems Engineering processes and practices within MM’s North American projects; including System Engineering (SE), Systems Integration (SI), Requirements Management (RM), Configuration Management (CM) and Systems Assurance (SA).
- Assist in the on-going review of all System Engineering and Integration processes and practices used within Mott MacDonald
- Develop and maintain relationships with clients and partners and represent the organization at rail and transit industry events/conferences
Candidate Specification:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent degree (significant relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree).
- 20 or more years of experience delivering large and complex infrastructure projects, preferably in rail and transit.
- P. Eng designation in Ontario, or eligible for membership
- Proven experience in the management of design and delivery of the following systems for public infrastructure projects:
- Traction Power Systems
- Overhead Catenary Systems (OCS)
- Power rail systems
- Communication Systems
- Signalling and Train Control
- Tunnel Ventilation control systems
- SCADA systems for control and monitoring
- Public Address and Public Visual Information Systems
- Security Systems (CCTV/Access Control)
- Rolling Stock/Vehicles
- Experience with management of system integration for large and complex systems in major railway infrastructure projects
- Experience with “right side of Vee” including Verification and Validation, and testing and Commissioning phases of project delivery, including readiness for operation
- Strong communication skills and fluency in English.
- Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and lead technical discussions with clients and partners.
- Able to hold competent business discussions with Clients
- Able to interface with domain specialists, design managers and construction project managers, in a competent professional manner.
- Broad experience of delivery within major infrastructure projects.
- Knowledge of Systems Engineering principles and lifecycle management (IEC/IEEE 15288) and experience with implementation to real projects.
- Knowledge of System Safety and Assurance (EN 50126, CMREA)
- INCOSE ASEP or CSEP certification is desirable.
Travel Requirements:
- Occasional travel is part of the role and it is expected that the successful applicant will be able to travel within Canada and the US to MM locations and project offices.

In compliance with the B.C. Pay Transparency Act, the expected salary range is from $200,000 - $240,000 for Vancouver.
Multiple factors such as qualifications, overall experience and position responsibilities will be used to determine the successful candidate's actual salary within the expected range.
