This role goes beyond traditional advisory services, requiring the ability to shape climate data analysis, risk assessment and resilience strategies - while also guiding their implementation across major capital and critical infrastructure projects. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams and senior stakeholders, you will integrate climate risk, adaptation, and resilience considerations into project planning, design, and delivery - ensuring infrastructure systems are robust, future-ready, and aligned with regulatory, community, and sustainability objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead or support climate change risk and vulnerability assessments for public and private sector infrastructure projects.
- Act as technical lead on climate resilience assessments using the PIEVC (Public Infrastructure Engineering Vulnerability Committee) Protocol, and other climate risk assessment methodologies, ensuring alignment with existing policy and planning frameworks for adaptation in project locales.
- Support integration of relevant regulations, codes, guidelines, and industry standards (e.g., standards on climate adaptation, national and subnational climate policies) into project delivery.
- Support integration of climate risks into capital planning, asset management, land use planning, or infrastructure programs.
- Communicate complex climate concepts in clear, accessible language through development of technical reports and supporting resilience sections for project reporting.
- Facilitate/support stakeholder workshops to assess climate risks and identify adaptation opportunities for new and existing infrastructure.
- Synthesize climate science, historic, baseline and future climate data and policy into fit-for-purpose formats, including actionable, decision ready recommendations for client decision makers
- Support development of long term climate strategies and/or roadmaps aligned with client mandates
- Support development of adaptation strategies and action plans to enhance infrastructure resilience and support client decision making.
- Lead or support stakeholder engagement processes, including workshops, capacity building and training sessions, co design sessions, public or Indigenous engagement (where applicable) and guidance on best practices for climate resiliency.
- Support business development, including proposal writing and development of RFP responses.
- Represent Mott MacDonald externally through conference presentations, panels and workshops, publications or white papers and contribute to thought leadership on emerging climate issues.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in engineering, environmental sciences, sustainability, or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience in engineering, infrastructure, or sustainability consulting.
- 7+ years experience in climate change, resiliency, and climate change mitigation advisory services;
- Demonstrated experience applying the PIEVC Protocol and other risk assessment methodologies for infrastructure risk/vulnerability assessments in Canada.
- Familiarity with Canadian and other regulatory landscapes for infrastructure planning, climate change adaptation, and related sustainability objectives.
- Ability to interpret and apply climate projection data and support integration into engineering/design processes.
- Experience preparing technical risk assessment documentation supporting permitting and environmental assessment processes.
- Strong client and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to lead workshops and technical sessions.
- Working knowledge of CSA Group adaptation standards, ISO 14091, Paris Agreement, UNFCCC goals and experience with Indigenous consultation considered an asset.
- Experience with nature-based solutions, disaster risk reduction, and resilience co-benefits considered an asset.
