Senior CAD Technician

Mott MacDonald is looking for an experienced designer, with the ability to independently evaluate, select and apply standard techniques, procedures and criteria using judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications. Assignments have clear and specified objectives and require investigation of a limited number of variables. Performance at this level requires developmental experience in a professional position or equivalent graduate level education. Performs non-routine assignments of substantial variety and complexity. Receives objectives and technical advice from supervisor. Work is reviewed for technical adequacy. May be assisted by lower-level technicians. Function as part of a design team for small to large capital projects in the energy sector. Responsibilities will include:

• Create piping models using AutoCAD/CADworks and prepare 2D drawing packages from the design models
• Prepare material quantities from the 3D model files using customer material specificaitons
• Produce various drawings specific to projects data including pipe routing both below ground, above ground and through the use of pipe racks and/or pipe hangers.
• Create drawings with minimal supervision
• Develop technical drawings (determining appropriate scales, arrangement, and specific details of the drawings) from the concepts required by the engineering team
• Interface with clients to obtain necessary design data and present designs to clients using appropriate design sharing tools
• Respect and enforce internal and client policies and procedures in the preparation of drawings
• Following discipline-specific and company drafting standards
• Perform other related duties that may contribute to the project's completion
• Has knowledge of engineering principles and suggests design changes
• Communicate with Project Managers and Team Leaders on workflow status in order to meet chargeability goals

Candidate Specifications:

• Holds an associate or higher degree or equivalent technical qualifications in CAD
• Minimum 10 years of experience in mechanical drafting and/or engineering
• Complete reviews of junior design staff
• Excellent knowledge of AutoCAD and Civil3D software
• Ability to work with minimal supervision
• Ability to work to meet cost objectives, quality and deadlines
• Time management skills and adaptation to change
• Good oral and written communication skills in English
• Pre-employment and ongoing, random drug testing is required
